#46 - NEVER TALK TO THE POLICE, EVEN IF YOU ARE INNOCENT

Everyone has heard at some point of the Miranda Warning, or what many people mistakingly refer to as their "Miranda Rights". It is used on every television show where someone is being questioned or arrested by police. But have you ever took a moment to actually think about what is being said in that warning?

"Anything you say can and will be used against you in a court of law."

ANYTHING that you say to them CAN and WILL be used AGAINST YOU in a court of law. Legally, nothing that you say to them can ever be used by the police or the prosecutor to help you in your defense. They are barred from entering anything that you say to them in evidence unless it can be used to convict you.

Never answer any question, no matter how innocent the question seems. No matter how you answer the question, your answer CAN and WILL be used against you to convict you, even if you are innocent.

If the police have decided to arrest you or give you a citation, nothing that you say to the police will ever change their minds. Remember, nothing that you say will be used in your favor, it will ONLY be used against you.
